It looks like RHUL’s CS freshers are going to dominate the event: Florian, Svilen and me are all goin to attend and the only thing I can say is: I can’t f*cking wait! Funny thing is that, as every CS person who has some self-respect, all 3 of us kind of hate Microsoft: Florian and me both have Macs and Svilen was about to buy one. I can already feel the pressure on Ballmer: Be careful boy! :-DThey claim there are only 300 invitations available and I guess you have to hurry if you want to attend as well. This is the link. Randy Pausch, a Carnegie Mellon University computer scientist whose “last lecture” became an Internet sensation and a best-selling book, died Friday. He was 47.
O Randy Pausch είχε διεγνωσθεί με καρκίνο τον Αύγουστο του 2006. Έναν χρόνο αργότερα οι γιατροί εκτιμούσαν ότι θα ζούσε 3 με 6 μήνες ακόμη. Τελικά απεβίωσε χθες τα μεσάνυχτα, στο σπίτι του στην Virginia. Πρόλαβε πάντως να μας συγκινήσει όλους, με την ομιλία του και το βιβλίο του (”The Last Lecture”).
Μεταξύ άλλων είπε:
“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They are there to stop the other people!”
Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.

The Library of Congress has signed an agreement with Microsoft to make the library’s collection of historical artifacts more immediately available, both to online visitors and the 2 million people each year who come to the library’s Thomas Jefferson Building in Washington.
Microsoft will provide an initial grant of technology, services and funding worth more than $3 million to enhance the online accessibility and interactivity of about 800 of the Library of Congress’ prominent holdings.
Όλα είναι έτοιμα για την επίσημη έναρξη της λειτουργίας του blog. Όλα; Μάλλον όχι, λείπει μάλιστα το σημαντικότερο συστατικό: μια δημοσίευση. Βάζω όλη μου την…τέχνη (την ποιά; :P) με την ελπίδα να “καλοπιάσω” όσους κουράστηκαν να με κυνηγάνε σε νέες διευθύνσεις συνεχώς (τελευταία φορά, το υπόσχομαι), να κινήσω το ενδιαφέρον σε όσους με διαβάζουν για πρώτη φορά και, κυρίως, να μείνω ικανοποιημένος με το αποτέλεσμα.
